Bø campus library

The library at Campus Bø is located in Wing 4, across the hall from the A. O. Vinje lecture hall.  From the main entrance turn left; the entrance to the library is just past the elevator. The facilities were renovated in 2016.

Knowledge and Advice

The library is open to everyone.  Books, journals, CDs and more are available for borrowing by all. Students and employees can get help from the librarians during office hours. After office hours there is a Student Assistant available until 18:00. You can continue to use the library from 18:00 until 23:00 but will need your student or employee card to come into the library and to borrow items using the automated self-checkout machines. In February 2020, we will begin a trial period with a 24-hour open library, just remember your card and code.

Meeting Place

The library is one of the most-visited places on campus. You can meet other students, work on your assignments alone or with a group, or you can just take a break and read newspapers or magazines.

Required reading

The library has at least one or two copies of all required reading materials.  You can borrow these but they usually have a waiting list.  You should therefore not depend upon being able to borrow all of your required reading books from the library for the entire semester.

The library has 62 workspaces spread about in group rooms and tables with place for 4 people.  We also have 24 new reading room places for those who want to work alone but without the complete silence of the reading room in the second floor. The library is never completely quiet but everyone should show consideration for others who are studying.

The library holds courses in source criticism, literature searches, EndNote and more. Feel free to contact us or your lecturer for more information or for an adapted course.

Academic writing centre

This is a new project at campus Bø. It is open for students on Wednesdays until the end of the semester. Stay tuned for more info.

Order a Librarian

We answer all inquiries we get at the help desk, via telephone or email, and by social media. If you need more advanced help in literature searching, EndNote or other library services, please make an appointment with a librarian.  This offer applies to all students and employees at USN.

We have 6 stationary PCs for students and employees. Log in with your FEIDE credentials (the username and password you use in Fronter) and you will have access to the printers and your home area in the USN-network. All of the machines are equipped with Windows.  There can be heavy demand for the computers at times; please be advised that you can also print from your own laptops or from one of the computer labs in wing 2 (past the Copy Center).

We will also be installing 2 stationary PCs which will provide quick access to our search motor Oria without requiring login. You can find out where the books you are looking for are located in the stacks. Feel free to ask for help using these.  Theses computer will not have access to the printers or your home area and you cannot save files to these machines.

IT help

If you have questions or need help with logging in, your password, or related issues, please contact the on-call IT staff at the end of the hall past the  copy center.

Printing, Copying, and Scanning

You can print, copy, and scan using both of the machines in the library.  You must be logged in with your username and password.  For more information about these services log in to the intranet at min.usn.no
